La Casona de Yucay Hotel

The beautiful mansion is strategically located in the Sacred Valley of the Incas in Urubamba, near the Inca town of Ollantaytambo, the markets of Pisac and Chinchero, the salt mines of Maras, the Moray Arqueological Site and the Inca trail which leads to the ancient Incan city of Machu Picchu.

Yucay was chosen as a place of solace and rest by the Incas, and was originally called Yucaybamba, later changed to Villa de yucay in the 18th Century.

This valley is irrigated byt the Vilcanota or Willcamayu river, possesses great beauty, apart from being very fertile for agricultural activities. During Inca Pachacutec´s period it was an important production center of corn, fruit, grains and potatoes.

In this valley we can find very ancient Inca constructions that belonged to the nobility and religious sectors, such as palaces of Sayri Tupac and Ñusta Inkarakay.

The construction dates back to the year 1810 and belonged to Don Manuel de Orihuela, who received the Libertador Simón Bolívar as a guest in 1825.

The Libertador Bolívar named him “Vista de la Renta de Alcabala” in 1825, and was awarded with a medal of “Padre Insigne de la Patria” in 1826.

Later Don Manuel was named “Treasurer of the Mint of Cusco” by General Gamarra in 1830, and “Colonel of the Regiment” by Mariscal Ramón Castilla in 1847.

This house, that today has been reconditiones and transformed into a comfortable Hotel, was restored some years ago by Doña Teresa Orihuela.
